Okwadike Chukwuemeka Ezeife, the former governor of old Anambra state
has accused President Muhammadu Buhari of fighting a war against Igbo
people just like he did during the civil war. Breaking Times reports
that the elder statesman said President Buhari was treating the south
eastern people badly just like he did during the Biafra war fought
between 1967-1970 in which he was also a key officer. “Buhari will
continue fighting Biafra or now, Ndigbo – for as long as God gives him
breath. Let us not give him any semblance of excuse or justification;
let us not give him the opportunity to further slaughter our youths…

Ezeife however warned the protesters
not to resort to self-defence or bear arms as that will only provide
justification for killing them. He claimed the plan of the present
government was to decimate the Igbo youths and thus the protesters
should be careful.
“At this stage, it does not make any
sense to talk about self-defence. If (armed) self-defence is
attempted, it can only lead to more depopulation of South East
youths.. Thinking persons should, in the circumstance, see any effort
at self-defence as suicidal!” He claimed the strategy of the president
was to depopulate the south east with the way soldiers were engaging the
protesters.
“This means that reducing the
population of the South-East remains a legitimate strategy. The war
continues for as long as those like him, who fought in the war, remain
alive. Thus, we must take, as war dead, the casualties at the Aba School
Compound, days ago, where unarmed members of Indigenous Peoples of
Biafra (IPOB), were gathered and were dealt with: 50 persons in all,
with 10 dead on the spot.
“We have no way to know yet how many
of the wounded have died. One wonders whether, even in wars, there are
no rules of engagement. “Armed policemen and soldiers, shooting-to-death
innocent or, at least, unarmed individuals, can only be seen, properly,
as crime against humanity, even worse than pogrom!!!
Body language may be more
commanding than express orders or commands.” He commented members of
the Indigenous People Of Biafra for taking their agitation to the United
Nations. He said the absence of Igbo persons in Buhari’s first 40
appointments incited the agitation for Biafra.
He also said the arrest and
continued detention of Nnamdi Kanu and not giving Igbos key ministerial
positions also contributed to the growing tension Meanwhile, the
Nigerian army plans to relocate one of its brigades to Aba, Abia state,
to stop the increasing protest the IPOB and the Movement for the
Actualization of Sovereign States of Biafra
