The international group accuses Buhari of neglecting their demands
– OEAS calls for implementation of Biafra United Front Organisation of Emerging African States (OEAS),
an international governmental organization that promotes self-determination and the end to colonial era boundaries in Africa, has called for creation of Biafra United Front. The group called on all pro-Biafran supporters to put aside their inner differences and come together to continue their struggle for independence and defend themselves against Nigeria’s supposed violence. READ ALSO: OAES supports Biafra’s secession, demands release of its activists A document released by OEAS reads in part: “On December 4, 2015, the Oeas issued the following demands to the Nigeria government to be met within 90 days. “Immediate release from jail of Biafra Zionist Movement, MASSOB, Ipob and Radio Biafra supporters, including Benjamin Onwuka and Nnamdi Kanu. All federal military and police forces to stand down and return to their barracks. A snap referendum on Biafran self-determination to be held within 90 days.” Meanwhile, the group maintained that the Nigerian government neglected the requests and instead resorted to arresting more pro-Biafrans and using excessive violence against protesters. “Therefore, the Oeas calls for the creation and implementation of a Biafra United Front to use all necessary means to achieve these goals. The Oeas offers its good offices to put out a call for the creation of a united front and organising meeting of all groups in greater Biafraland,” it further said. Pro-Biafrans call for the independence of the Biafran territories that become the part of Nigeria during the British colonisation, which ended in 1960. The declaration of the Independent Republic of Biafra in 1967 caused a civil war that led to the death of millions of people.
