Political Beyonce extols the values of Malcolm X and Black Panther at US Super Bowl

Beyonce, the greatest performer in the world right now, use the unique opportunity granted by the Super Bowl as a platform to lend her support to Black Lives Matter movement.  The 34-year-old singer led her singers dressed in Black Panther costume onto the field on Sunday night.



The Black Panthers were a group that combated police brutality in the US during the mid-20th century through self-defense, by patrolling the streets and monitoring police and government activity against people of colour.

Malcolm X was assassinated in the Audubon Ballroom in New York City. His death prompted reactions from many Civil Rights leaders, including Martin Luther King, Jr. At the peak of racial abuse in the United States of Blacks, Malcolm X, advocated for black unity, self-respect, pride, separatism  and self-reliance.

Beyonce in military dress, flanked by her militant dancers, together the X formation in tribute to the Malcolm X, one of the greatest civil rights leader. Malcolm X, the unsung hero of Black emancipation also believed that Blacks can should fight for themselves instead of adopting the pacifist ideology advocated by Dr Martin Luther King (jr).

Beyonce’s new song Formation has been called a black power anthem for modern America and by performing it while surrounded by Black Panther dancers, she certainly seems to be telling the 100 million viewers that black lives really do matter, and the US needs to fight for them.
